ROAD CONDITIONS TO SAN JOSEF BAY October 2024
CAPE SCOTT Parking Lot
HWY 19 to NE 60 (Holberg)
Road conditions are quite good! The Mainline grader has been working hard and it shows! The area between the Georgie Lake turn off and the shoe tree is a bit rough but that area always is.
NE 60 to Holberg
This section of the road is quite good as well! There are a couple sections that have small washouts from the last big rainstorm but they just feel like speed bumps. There’s not a lot of logging action right now, apparently WFP are building roads for about 6 weeks then will start hauling.
Hollberg to Cape Scott Parking Lot
Well this part of the road sucks! There are sections of potholes about every 20 feet and some bad ones before and after the bridges. The low, swampy area before Ronning Garden where the 3 bridges are is subject to flooding, it was 2 feet underwater after the big rains. There’s a couple of trees down on the road that someone cleared (thank you!) so watch for that as well.
There are a lot of potholes and remember to take your time…! A flat tire is one thing (and easy to fix if you know how), but a blown oil pan without cell service will for sure ruin your day!!
Any car can make it out there but if you don’t have good tires (8-10 ply) there’s a good chance you won’t. Make sure you have a full sized spare. Remember that if you have to get towed it’s going to be expensive.
Don’t forget to stop at the Scarlet Ibis for a bevie and a burger on your way home, check their website here out for current hours.
