Grant Bay Hiking Tour

This is a moderate 5-10 minute walk on a well maintained (albeit sometimes muddy) trail.

Tour Highlights

The best part about Grant Bay is the white sandy beaches, the easy hike, and the heat. Grant Bay is the most southern west coast beach that our van travels to, which gives it a very tropical feel and appearance. It is the only local beach that can accommodate a south swell, and is a very popular location for surfing, stand up paddle boarding, sand castle building, and general beach fun.

Scenic Drive & Wildlife Viewing

The Grant Bay beach tour begins with a comfortable drive in our climate-controlled 12-passenger van. Be sure to watch out for bears, eagles, deer and other wildlife on the drive. Upon leaving Port Hardy we will be travelling on active logging roads and will pass through the historic logging town of Holberg. We will make a quick stop at the Scarlet Ibis Pub in Holberg where guests will have access to washrooms and the pre-ordered boxed lunches will be picked up.

Hike Details

The trail to the beach is 5-10 minutes and goes through a tall stand of old growth trees. There are a couple of small boardwalks and a few muddy spots along the way (depending on weather). This is a great (and easy) place to pack in surf and stand up paddle boards.

Swimming & Beach Activities

The beach at Grant Bay is very remote, has crystal clear water, and for many locals is considered the “Hawaii” of northern Vancouver Island. This is a great place for surfing, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming, making sandcastles, having beach fires, and relaxing. We will provide everyone in the van with a lifejacket. Please contact us in advance if you would like to rent surf or stand up paddle boards. There are no formal outhouses at this beach.
